Illinois Institute Of Technology: Ranking, Tuition Fees, Cost Of Living


The Illinois Institute of Technology is a world-class private university located in Chicago. This institution is a research-centered institution prominent in the fields of engineering, science, and business. IIT offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in sciences, engineering, applied technology, human science, business, law, design and applied technology. IIT produces technological professionals with top-notch technological, creativity and entrepreneurial skills.

Created in 1940 from the merger of Lewis Institute and Armour Institute, Illinois Institute of Technology, also known as Illinois Tech, is divided into five colleges: College of Science, College of Engineering, College of Architecture, Lewis College of Human Science, and Chicago-Kent College of Law. She also has two schools: the Stuart School of Business and School of Applied Technology. There are also a good number of research centers.

According to QS World University ranking, Illinois Tech is ranked between 401-410 in the world. Times also ranked her between 301-350. And her institute of design has been globally acclaimed as one of the world’s top design schools.

IIT has four campuses. The main campus is Mies Campus, located at 10 West 35th Street, Chicago. Others are: Downtown Campus, located at 565 West Adams, Chicago (Third largest city in the USA), the downtown campus is for the college of law and the graduate school of business; Moffett campus located at Bedford Park, is home to the institute for food safety and health; while Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Campus, Wheaton, is for the school of applied technology.


First Year Undergraduate admission requirements and application guidelines (Domestic Students):

Undergraduate programsis for students that have completed their high school or on the verge of doing so, and for students who have not been to college or coming on transfer. Students in these categories are the ones qualified for this entry level. They must be domestic students: US citizens or US permanent residents, including US nationals living in military or diplomatic zones oversea.

Students of high academic qualities are highly sought after at Illinois Tech for admission. Applicants must have good community personalities and sound leadership traits. Hence, the following are evaluated in your application: your academic ability, extracurricular activities, community-based volunteers and leadership records. You would be expected too, to tell us what motivated you to apply for an IIT education, your career goals and how you would contribute to the Illinois Tech academic community. High school/secondary school transcript

Request your high school to submit your official academic records to the office of the undergraduate admission.

4 years of English and mathematics and 3 years of science are required.

Test scores

SAT I or ACT scores. IIT’s SAT and ACT codes are 1318 and 1040 respectively.

Letter of recommendation

A letter of recommendation is required from your teacher or counselor. Please give this recommendation form to a teacher who knows you very well and can write very well about you. Up to three letters can be submitted, but a minimum of one letter is required. The teacher is to submit this letter through the common application to the admission office electronically.

For International Undergraduate students

In addition to the above requirements, International students should also submit a TOEFL or IELTS scores.

There is a total of 36 undergraduate majors in the university.

Graduate admission requirements and application steps

Graduate programsis for those students who have completed their bachelors or masters degrees. We welcome students with sound academic records, who may also have good work experience in the field where they intend to further, into our graduate programs. It is an intensive program that aims at producing seasoned professionals: scientists, engineers, and policy makers who could contribute so actively in the development of their respective sectors.

Before applying, check up the deadline for your desired course. If you hope to receive financial aid, you are advised to complete your application on time. Your application is what will be used for the financial support application, so no further submission is required for that separately.

All application must be completed online. No shipping of documents.

The application fee for graduate students is $75 (non-refundable), except for the institute of design and Kent College of Law. There is an application fee waiver for current students or alumni of IIT.

-TOEFL or IELTS scores for international students who English is not their first language.

Though a private University, IIT tries to make her tuition somewhat affordable. We also offer scholarship opportunities to deserving students, from about $10,000 worth of partial tuitions scholarship to a full tuition waiver.
